Any tips? Cheers Simon.
Hi and Welcome Bewlman!
I am not familiar with your parts of Lake Vanern, so I hope some of the other members will give you some feedback regarding hot spots.
Anyhow, fishing late May when water temperature is high I would say one word "downrigger" so you can get your baits down where the thermocline is.
You could also try some kind of divers, Jet diver, Dipsy diver or slide diver. These kind of divers works ok but you do not have the same depth control as with a downrigger where you all the time see the cannonball on your fishfinder/depth sounder screen.
I would also recomend higher speed, 2,5 knots up to 3,5 knots if your baits can handle that speed.
These tips is for fishing salmon and trout.
Have a good one.

Hes right, you need to buy two downriggers. You should also buy some line releases/stackers for to be able to fish with two rods on each downrigger. Fishing depth at that time would be down to 15m if the temp are high at the surface (15°C) and if the thermocline are located at a depth down to 15m.
Recommended downriggers are of the Scotty or Cannon brands. If you need advice here, just post a note an we will answer asap. The needed downrigger weights should be between 5.5 kg and 7 kg.
Trolling speed depends on if you are going to use natural bait (Löja + agnskalle) or wobblers or spoons (Plastic or metal). For natural "Löja" you should troll at 1.5 to 2 kn generally. For all other baits you should use higher speed, that speed Kjelle recommended. The two types of baits (natural or plastic/metal) could hardly be mixed due to different optimum trolling speed
Places for trolling for salmon would be the lager open waters most of the time. It should be in deeper waters.
Thanks for that. What parts of Varnen would be good?Kinneviken?mellan Kallandso and Luron?Palgrund to Hindens Rev? Tight lines!(hopefully) Simon.
